What is a Panchang?
The panchang, or Hindu almanac, describes each day through five limbs: tithi (lunar day), nakshatra, yoga, karana and vara (weekday). It is used to understand the quality of a day and to choose times for ceremonies and new beginnings.
We calculate each limb at local sunrise, as is customary, with the time it ends. Sunrise, sunset, moonrise and moonset are shown for the city you choose, because they change with location.

Frequently asked questions
Why does the panchang change with the city?
The Hindu day begins at local sunrise, which differs from place to place. The limbs themselves change at the same moment everywhere, but which one is current at sunrise, and the local times, depend on the city.
Can I use this to choose a muhurat?
The panchang is the starting point for a muhurat, but choosing one for an important event also considers your own chart and other factors. An astrologer can help select a suitable time.
