What is the Lo Shu grid?
The Lo Shu grid is a 3 × 3 magic square, laid out 4 9 2 / 3 5 7 / 8 1 6, in which every row, column and diagonal adds up to 15. Each digit of your date of birth is placed in its cell, so the grid shows at a glance which numbers you carry, which repeat, and which are absent. Zeros are not placed.
Following common Indian practice, we also add your conductor (bhagyank), your driver (mulank) when it is not already written as the day's only digit, and, if you choose a gender, your Kua number. Added numbers are shown in orange so you can tell them apart, and you can switch them off to see the birth date alone.
The rows, columns and diagonals are read as planes: mental, emotional and practical; thought, will and action; and the golden and silver yogs. A complete plane points to a quality that comes naturally. A missing number points to a quality that may take more conscious effort, never to a flaw.

Frequently asked questions
What is the Kua number?
The Kua number comes from the year of birth and differs for men and women. It is used in the Eight Mansions tradition, and the solar year begins around 4 February, so anyone born before then takes the previous year.
What does a missing number mean?
It suggests a quality that may not come automatically, so it grows through conscious practice. We include a simple, practical suggestion for each missing number.
Why do different sites show different grids?
Practices differ on whether to add the driver, conductor and Kua numbers. We show which numbers were added and let you turn them off, so you can compare.
