Vastu for every room

This guide shows where each room of a home is traditionally placed in Vastu, using the 16-zone model read from the centre of the home. For every room you will see the ideal zones, widely used alternatives, the zones best avoided, placement tips inside the room, suitable colours and the reasoning behind them.

The diagram shows the 16 zones around the centre, with north at the top. To use it, orient a floor plan of your home so that north points up, mark the centre, and see which zone each room falls in. The Vastu compass can help you find north.

Very few homes follow every recommendation, especially flats and existing buildings. The placement tips are there so that, when a room cannot move, its use, arrangement and colours can still support its purpose.

Frequently asked questions

How do I find the centre of my home?

For a rectangular plan, draw the two diagonals; the centre is where they cross. For an irregular plan, a Vastu consultant usually works out the centre from the full outline.

Does this apply to flats?

Yes. Vastu is read for your own flat, from its centre, regardless of the building's orientation.

Do I need to rebuild if a room is in the wrong zone?

Rarely. Most guidance can be followed through placement, colours and how a room is used. A consultation can help you decide what is worth changing, if anything.
